"First, unlike all of the aforementioned urban battles, two regular European armies, which are on the same technical level and are more or less equal in combat training, fought here. Both Russians and Ukrainians had tanks and powerful artillery, a huge number of various weapons."

Yup. A lot of analyses I've read about the battle fail to consider how this is a completely novel situation for modern times.

Large scale urban warfare between Ukrainian forces and the DNR/Russians means two well equipped, well trained forces, fighting it out in difficult close range engagements until one calls uncle. Mariupol is finally listed as a Russian victory on English Wikipedia as of a couple hours ago, and wikipedia is the arbiter of truth as everyone knows.

I believe that capturing thousands of POWs and besieging Azovstal was a brilliant move the Russians made; that will be understood in due time to the lay military enthusiast in the west. When is the last time a modern army equipped and trained like the Ukrainians on the Azov coast have EVER surrendered in those numbers? Has it even happened in modern times? This is a Dien Bien Phu level of battle, people will talk about it for decades.
